Notes on maintaining Bees in Urban and Suburban Neighborhoods

Numerous beekeepers have bee hives inside their meters. Some bees are even maintained town roof-tops. Bees can travel a few kilometers to gather nectar and pollen, so that they do not need flowering plants close by. Most suburbs have actually lots of plants, and bees can make a great crop of regional honey.

City beekeepers has to take special treatment so their particular bees cannot become a nuisance to neighbors, and on occasion even look like an issue. Everyone desire good neighborly relations!

Bee stings are often next-door neighbors' biggest issue. Frequently, beekeepers can take care of their particular bees in ways that allow next-door neighbors to feel safe and comfortable inside their yards.

The Fence

A Fence is important for the majority of yard beekeepers. a six-foot large fence or shrubbery can provide several functions:

  • Forces the bees journey path above people's minds. Bees normally travel in a straight way to their hive, and a fence raises their journey path up over everybody's head. A fence decreases the possibility that a bee will accidentally collide with some body walking close by.
  • Produces an "out of picture - regarding head" situation. Many people may be very worried about bees when you look at the area. A fence hides most proof that handled bees are in a nearby.
  • Provides wind defense to the hives.

Honey bees must gather water, especially in early spring and through the heat of summer time. Bees could be fussy about where they collect liquid. They seem to love little ponds and creeks. The bees may also drink from your pet dog's consuming dish, or a neighbor's bird bathtub or pool. To deter bees from going to a neighbor's garden for a glass or two, the residential district beekeeper should offer liquid because of their bees.

Do worker bees kill drone bees for laziness? - Quora

Nah, they don't sting them to death just kick them out and don't let them back in. In early winter when bees go into winter mode they want to conserve as much energy and food as they can to make it through the winter. As the queen doesn't lay in the winter the drones have no usefulness so they kick them out into the cold. The hive is the organism and at that point those drones are only a drag.
The drones are bigger and make a much louder buzzing noise. When the ladies start kicking them out you can catch them and have a pet bee as they can't sting you.
